The Rebel Four: No, no, no, no – FNM MPs split from party on VAT vote
Is this true? "The actions of Mr Miller, Mr McAlpine and Mr Robinson came after they were warned that voting against any part of the budget package would create the expectation that they will resign their positions in government, in keeping with the Westminster system of governance." Is this the Westminster system??? Doesn't sound right to me. Its probably because we only remember the Westminster system when convenient.
It is absolutely necessary for ministers to vote according to their values and the desires of the people they represent rather than as a party cabal. Threats and consequences of this nature seem "undemocratic".

Section 21 of WHAT? If y'all suddenly bringing up this bible what does it say about the behavior of the Speaker of the House? Pull one rule when you need it but know that the people will hold the government accountable for ALL the rules- moving forward.

This RULE makes a member a LIAR. If one disagrees with a matter in private, that disagreement does not automatically change in public. Discard that ridiculous RULE. It only perpetuates hypocrisy.

The Westminster system of government was written by imperfect men, who obviously purposely placed a flaw in the system to maintain control of MP's.
This stupidity of MP's having to vote positively for anything brought by the prime minister is exactly the reason Pindling, Ingraham, and Christie crashed and burned to become such colossal failures along with all their MP's.
MP's are voted in to serve their constituents, not kiss the prime ministers ass!
These four "MEN" need to stand together and consider forming the nucleus of a third party opposing the PLP and FNM in 2022.
We the people are sick and tired of the PLP and FNM kowtowing to special interest and entrenched economic pirates!

This is what the economics students should keep in mind, they will flaunt their support of "young" people while you "cute" and "young", when you show you have a brain and an independent voice, it's later for you. It's really a very bad trait for leadership and the seeds of a totalitarian dictatorship.

Fired - but still backing the FNM
You have to ask yourself, who is these gentlemen's boss? Who hired them? The answers to these two questions in conjunction with the system of government brings us to the logical conclusion. Is the British parliamentary form of democratic government the best for the Bahamas? Is it outdated? These are important questions worthy of discussion.

I commend THE FOUR who voted their convictions. While understanding the "Westminster" regulation as concerns voting to support a bill being presented by one's party, I do not understand the point of forced voting. It seems tantamount to a totalitarian government attempting to give the impression of democracy. However, removing said rule could create governmental chaos........

Here's an idea. Ignore rules that do nothing to promote democracy. Then work to change them. Firing the dissenters was the wrong move. Period.

FNM constituency association regrets picking Chipman
The Free National Movement’s Centreville Constituency Association is being STUPID, and like many of their 'senior" MP's, very arrogantly short-sighted.
"“There is a disconnect between Mr Chipman and the association. He feels he could make decisions without informing us. Right now, we can’t support anybody we have such a disconnect with and who makes decisions for personal reasons.” Now THAT is rich!

He did not break any rules. He agrees that the rules mean that Dr. Minnis had to fire him - and he accepted that. He is not asking to be reinstated to his position. He is SUGGESTING to the Bahamian people that they consider a change of the rules so that their "representatives" actually be able to represent them instead of having to be a bunch of suck-ups.

Can the officer who had to deal with this imbecile be identified so that we can give him the compliments he deserves. I would have found it very difficult to hold myself together in the face of such obnoxious and rude behaviour.

Dump the sicko in the ocean in the middle of the poor whale's family and let them decide. Ignorant greed was a terrible motivation for this crime. Big thanks to the folk who attempted to save the poor creature. Hope a reward might help capture the perp to be prosecuted (unlike the sicko in Freeport who murdered the poor pit bull and her pups).

Immigration policy's impact on public services a 'serious threat' to national security
There are some things I see that I do not speak into the atmosphere. Mr Lloyd is right on this. You cannot treat an entire segment of society as less than human and expect good things.
1.The foolishness with allowing people to stay in the country after their work permit has expired waiting on renewal has to stop.
2.They need to clear up the issue with children born to illegal immigrants going forward. We cannot assimilate an entire country. I think the process should be stopped. The status of those already here defined and then no more allowed as of X date past or future.
A series of information sessions specifically for the Haitian community to clear up the question of shanty towns, work permits should be had. Otherwise their only source of information is Rumour and misinformation.
The rights of Haitians working legally in the country have to be protected from regular citizens, police and immigration and other Haitians who seek to use their immigration status for extortion.
