banker 10 years, 11 months ago on Violence in Bahamas at levels close to armed conflict zones

I don't believe this. First there is demonstrable obsessive compulsive disorder in regards to bringing up the FNM in every conversation, and now there is denial of reality where just in today's paper, a Subway store is brazenly robbed, a baby is killed by a hit and run coward, the deputy prime minister was robbed at gunpoint, eight people were shot in a 24 hour period three weeks ago, the murder rate is in fact that of a war zone.

Let me educate you with some comparisons. Take Toronto, Canada. They have a population in the city of 2.78 million and they have had 31 homicides to this point. With that same rate, we should have three homicides every year. We have a tenth of that population and we have over 300% more homicides. Denying a problem makes you part of the problem and not part of the solution.

On bail! The courts are setting these killers free and the public is being terrorized by the criminals who have no fear or respect for life. If they do not respect our life why should we respect theirs? HANG THEM HIGH!

In the U.S., there is no bail if you are charged with murder. Why do we just turn loose a guy who faced enough evidence that he was charged wth TWO murders? Are we simply stupid?

I applaud the Government efforts to sabotage the economy. Only by making our economy and the country as a whole really SUCK - can we hope to discourage the migrants from coming here by the boatload. If there is nothing here to come for, then they might stop coming. LOL.

People who come here to bonefish are not taking the resource. They catch and release. The resource is still there and they pay for everything from food to accommodation to the airport taxes. What is this 'anonymous' guide talking about.

Christie, Maynard-Gibson and their cohorts are petrified and mortified by the prospects of their backroom deals with the Chinese being revealed as a result of the actions filed by Sarkis / Baha Mar in foreign courts, well away from the sphere of corrupt influences and shenanigans all too often directly associated with Maynard-Gibson.

Prediction: Izzie will leave the Bahamas for good but not before doing EVERYTHING in his power to make sure this resort does not open before May 2017. He has the money to mount every legal challenge and he will have the motivation to embarrass the **** out of this government. Can anyone blame him?

A sensationalist piece, written based on a track well over 24 hours old, not showing the significant weakening and shift in track.

The beauty of a news website is that you can provide UP TO THE MINUTE stories on it, not just regurgitated stuff form the print version that is already stale and useless by the time it hits the presses.

Do your job guys. It's not that hard!!!

It can only take a year if the persons dealing with it are incompetent.

No airstrip takes a year to repair,

CommonSense 9 years, 2 months ago on Baha Mar: What now for the workers?

It truly is unfortunate for those that are in positions that are dependent upon gratuities - the base salary will not cut it. However, it is amazing that Baha Mar is still paying their employees although they haven't been working for 2 months now and it speaks to the integrity of Izmirlian who surely could have laid all of them off and saved a considerable amount of money in doing so.

The truth of the matter is, Baha Mar has some of the most intelligent, experienced persons on their team and to let all of them go is apparently not worth the money that can be saved. I'm sure that they won't be able to maintain the payroll once the $21M owed from the government runs out but as it is right now, I agree that it is a good move. Once some of these people have been let go it's going to be extremely difficult to recruit them or people like them in the future. Many won't even consider returning until the resort is actually opened and off of the ground.

To the employees - remain confident and know that your employer is doing their best to keep you. No other employer would have paid you to stay home and do nothing all day. If you choose to stay with the company, now is the time to exercise frugality. Aside from that, I'm sure that many of you already have secret second jobs and are still collecting checks from Baha Mar simultaneously which, while dangerous, is wise. Save what you can and spend what you must. This government will be exposed soon enough and Baha Mar will be back on track under Izmirlian's leadership.

I live on a family island ,this past Saturday we did a clean up in town ,Its only Tuesday and its getting dirty again .I was behind a car two weeks ago and for 2 to 3 miles the parents had their child throwing garbage ,food containers ,soda cans etc out the back window.I should have been shocked ,amazed but it did not even surprise me at the least .

It is amazing to see the exceptionally great relief effort of Bahamians and friends of the Bahamas especially Florida, Jamaica and even Haiti to help out the residents of the Southern Bahamas, who were virtually wiped out by hurricane Joaquin. Of course many intend to rebuild and much of the infrastructure will have to be modified or relocated to withstand storms in the future. No lives were lost and everything that was can be replaced. After all, when you have received so much from a country you give back. It is considered crude to do otherwise
