The day they start income tax in this country is the day I leave. No friggin way.... If I have to pay income tax I might as well move to the US or Canada. I'll never live in a Bahamas with income tax....

Greentea 10 years ago on UPDATED: Miller says 5,000 gallons of fuel spilled by thieves

So what happened to the man "illegally" cutting fill? Was he persecuted? Of course not and here lies the root problem in this country- a complete lack of accountability and lack of will and or the ability to enforce standards. A country without the rule of law will eat its young.

lkalikl 9 years, 10 months ago on FNM planning to repeal parts of tax

Canada's GST is a federal Value Added Tax that is priced exclusively. We don't need to add provincial sales tax to have a Value Added Tax that works like the GST does in Canada. Your misinformation is disingenuous at best. All the business community, not just retailers, are asking for is that VAT be transparent and accountable and thus exclusively priced, just like the taxes work in Canada and the USA - the tax is at the register, the price is on the shelf without tax, so that the whole country is more competitively priced for Bahamians and tourists alike and we can make accurate price comparisons between the USA, Canada, online and here and thus compare apples to apples and oranges to oranges, not apples to oranges if we price differently. We want people to know that the price is x and the tax is y, so that Bahamians have transparency and accountability. The system of inclusive pricing makes us less competitive as a destination and hides our taxes again, just like duty was a hidden tax system and Bahamians naively used to believe that this country didn't pay tax - that is what the government wants. They don't want you to know what it costs the citizens in taxes that is why they are going with inclusive pricing rather than exclusive pricing. Don't listen to amateurs who know nothing about taxes, business or retail and don't listen to government, who know even less and take their marching orders from consultants who don't understand the Bahamas unique situation with its massive and direct competition with the US market. If the government wants more revenue, then it should do everything in its power to boost sales, which in turn will boost government revenue. You are putting the proverbial cart before the proverbial horse. This is the country's chance to make itself more competitive with an enlightened tax policy and exclusive pricing is that policy. Don't listen to those who want us to go back to the stone age of taxation where all the taxes are 'hidden' by the government deliberately. Let people know their tax, price exclusively! Wake up Bahamas!

Just listen to this arrogant arse hole. What a shameful display of insolence! Mitchell needs to stick his nose where it properly belongs, specifically the passport office where he should be sorting out the mess that requires Bahamians to wait more than 3 months for their passports!!

For heaven's sake, this is The Bahamas, not the United States. Blacks are not a minority here and we don't have white police officers.

Honestman 9 years, 3 months ago on Sarkis: I never imagined fight with the govt

It is clear that the PLP are petrified at the prospect of this matter going to Chapter 11 as their duplicity will be exposed in open court. Thus, this administration will do EVERYTHING in its power to prevent this from happening even if it means the country going down the toilet.

“They are in our country as guests,” Mr Woods said, “if they can’t follow the law then they need to leave, for these people to be speaking out against the government in the way they are doing.”

Firstly, if you take their money, they are no longer just a guest. They've paid to play. And are we really going to start censoring what people say about the government? This is not a dictatorship! People should not fear the government, the government should fear the people.

All correct. U.S. homeowners were discussing the storm and trading NOAA/NHC info on Out Islands websites a week before it struck the Bahamas. The NEMA crew were probably busy ordering their lunch and updating their Facebook pages.
