I'm in full agreement with the above statements. All those in government need to do their job! What the hell are these guys doing collecting paychecks and bickering back and fourth about the same issues. We've reached a STALEMATE on the issues of crime in the Bahamas. Remedy the problem!!!! I can't even begin to comment on Minnis' thought process; he seems clueless!

I'm not saying the FNM were any better at crime control...but the PLP seemed to have ALL the answers at the last general election and knew how to fix the problem...HA...now that's a laugh!!

Christie is in over his head and just doesn't have the balls to fire BJ and let someone who know what they are doing takeover. He is definitely not a leader because real leaders make decisions.Christie has failed us on CRIME,HEALTH,EDUCATION and everything else we just need real leaders in this country with vision, integrity, honesty and accountability all of which Mr. Christie lacks he is a dinosaur whose time has past we are fed up with corruption and cronyism.

The death penalty referendum is another red herring designed to distract the public. Capital punishment will have no impact on our crime problem one way or the other. We currently face a two-pronged problem - the first issue is hardened criminals killing or being killed while on bail. As DonAnthony said, we have to give them bail because we hold them for 3-4 years without trial, because our judicial system is ossified and broken. So, these fellas know they will see the street again before anyone has a chance to convict and sentence, much less hang them. They will either kill again or be killed before they have even cause to think about an ultimate punishment down the line. Most don't expect to live past a few years, so how you gonna scare them with the threat of a noose a decade away, once all at the appeals an etc are done? The other issue of the two pronged situation we face, is the masses of young boys 13-17 years old who have no parental figures and look up to the drug dealer on the corner and try to emulate his lifestyle. Now, I don't know about you guys, but I remember that as a 13 year old boy, I was invincible in my own head. No threat of some far away punishment could touch me. It is simply nonsense to expect a rational and responsible weighing of "calculated risk" for an action from an adolescent boy. If capital punishment is a deterrent anywhere in the world (i will leave that to the experts) it can only be in places where justice is swift and punishment comes quickly. It will have zero impact on the mental state of the problem groups in the Bahamas, so long as our judicial system moves at the agonizing crawl which it currently does.

....but just like they promised the solution to crime, this government was going to bring swift justice. Is the first 100 days up yet?

Bahamians better wake up!! New tax but still being collected by customs. The same customs that has not been able to collect duty...

wake up Bahamas. You don't actually think the Ishmael Lightbourns and Lady Ps will start paying taxes do you? SAY NO TO VAT!!! Let that stupid legislation sit in limbo forever.

We do not need new taxes. We need actual governance...

Great news! Finally someone telling the truth that no one (bahamians, the government, etc) wants to hear or acknowledge. But "truth shall set you free".... I have to say that while there are a few smart exceptional individuals, such as Mr. D’Aguilar, (and even a few younger Bahamians coming up in business and even government) the majority are ignorant of the facts, could care less about the nation/people, are self serving and do not/can not see long term what is being done to this nation. We can only blame Bahamians for bringing/allowing politicians to be treated as demigods and not held accountable for their actions. A political process that is flawed and antiquated....all add up to a doomed country.

Sadly this is not looking good, more should have been done to get the support of the local community, namely centring the event around Junkanoo. Right now you are banking on people who have to pay to come here to make the event a success while ignoring the captive audience of ~100,000 people.

Why not spend the money educating youth instead of investing in a parade of near-naked skin?

I completely agree, the money could and should have been used more wisely. But it's too late now for "coulda", they are targeting tourists and ignoring the Bahamian customer, I don't know who's bright idea that was

it is likely 45% on premium cookies

but there is cost shifting, because of the price controled items, they markup the non price controlled items to make up for losses,

truth be told, things are expensive everywhere, the cookies are just as expensive in other food stores

jelly, coffee and tea are duty free, but the prices are very high, likely because of shipping and cost-shifting

ps. make your own cookies butter, eggs, sugar and flour are price controled and a bottle of vanila flavoring lasts years.

Honestman 9 years, 11 months ago on Holiday season murders take death tally above last year's

Perhaps we should put this new murder record on a billboard on every roundabout like the PLP were so eager to do in the run up to the last election? This government HAS NO CLUE what to do about serious crime in this country and Christie has the nerve to say that the next election will be all about crime!!! What is he doing NOW to fight crime?

I was saying the same thing! What is this dude going on about? I haven't seen a 'cost of living' drop since I was living home as a child. It's expensive to live in the Bahamas as a middle class Bahamian. Especially, if you live in Freeport! I had to ration if I could afford to treat myself to Burger King etc. for the week.

So please notify me when things ARE really getting better!
