vlmarshall 11 years, 1 month ago on Bahamas Union of Teachers at the Ministry of Labour for conciliation talks

It would be very brazen of us to opine as to what should have been done and how it should have been done if we ourselves are not educators or close enough to educators to hear their daily cries as to the way business is conducted within the schools. Damn good teachers are held down by principles who are blinded by title and incapable and out of touch to do what is in the best interest of our schools. Programs are shoved aside, materials are needed and despite the claim of hundreds of thousands of dollars being spent to repair schools, some classrooms do not even have screens to keep insects from attacking students! And the audacity of a "minister of education" to tell teachers to show up or not get paid is a slap in the face. If the PM can seriously consider a new house of parliament, the lest that they can do is try to provide our educators with a work environment that will allow them growth, satisfaction and no fear of victimization all within reason.

You like Fred Mitchell misled the Bahamian people Mr. Minister of Education. I do not understand why you ministers continue to tell non-truths about matters that can be easily found out.

You picked a fight with the union, misled the Bahamian people about having the support of the Anatol Rodgers PTA and now you are going to pay for it. You have not been a good Minister of Education and now you are going from bad to worse.

It's about time the Finlaysons get locked up!!! Every business venture they engage in are raped, pillaged, and left for dead with the employees, creditors, etc. penniless and owed large sums of money. Yet the government continues to approve deals for this family. I support all actions of the City Markets employees and encourage other members of the public (if possible) to boycott Super Value until justice is done.

is this is the reason why the government is trying so hard to buy the city market warehouse for $25 million when we are broke?

I really can't stand these people. Baby Tiger is the complete opposite to Midas. Everything he touches turns to dust. I am really annoyed by this, because its not the first time it has happened . When they owned and operated Solomon's Mines they literally ran that into the ground. Employees couldn't cash their checks because the company accounts were overdrawn. Before this they were milking the brewery to maintain their plush lifestyle. Meanwhile the workers suffer and are treated with gross disrespect. Minister of Labour please address the concerns of these employees and many others who are being totally screwed over in this country. The Finlayson's are infamous for their poor employee relations. I think Tiger really did well for a man with little education and from humble beginnings. But, his children have really made a mess of things and show no remorse or care for people.

John 11 years ago on Legal action threatened over any comments about cleared widow

When Cain killed Able, part of the punishment God meted out to him was to mark him in a way that everyone he came in contact with would know of his deed, killing his brother. While Cain never denied that he did commit murder, he protested against his punishment. He said if God made him a marked man for murder, persons would try to kill him for what he did to his brother. So God promised to give an even more severe punishment to anyone that even attempted to kill Cain. And so he had to live through many years and many generations bearing the mark of murder. Back then persons did not just live three score and ten or seventy years, they lived for hundreds of years. Capital punishment in reverse.

Fitzgerald ought to resign, yes - but not because of cutting those paychecks. Instead he should resign because of the horrible conditions of many schools, esp. those that were not ready to open on the first school day.

This from a govt that claimed to be "ready to govern on day one". They can't even fix a screen in a school window during a 2 1/2 month summer holiday.

Fitzgerald employing thug tactics, if I were a teacher I would quit and find a another job. They treat you like garbage and expect you to just take it, lets see how bigity Fitzgerald acts when all the teachers walk off the job. You got the intellect you don't have to take this.

All they did was protest that they didn't want to teach in moldy, windowless schools with no air conditioning. Schools with not bathrooms working where you could smell the crap from the bathrooms filling the windowless classrooms and where some schools don't even have a roof on some islands.

How dare they! Fitzgerald cuts their already low pay to teach them a lesson and to threaten those that might seeks to disobey Lord, King and Master Fitzgerald in the future.

This guy is a joke, and needs to be FIRED!

I don't know the man, but the claims posted here of corruption and incompetence, the fact that he was fired...how did Perry Christie entrust him to the negotiating committee? To represent all of us? What must CWC have thought of that? If he stole money from the company, they obviously have access to his HR records.. further what must they have thought of Perry Christie for appointing such a man? It's really weird. Shane at NIB??? BOB? Nygard? It's almost as if someone is deliberately appointing mini hand-in-the-cookie-jar men to ensure they get their take but retain deniability for any movement of funds.

I look forward to the discovery process of this lawsuit. If the Punch says that Mr. McWeeney made x amount of dollars per year, and he in fact made y, he has to provide the evidence. The BoB must lift its skirts in the discovery process, and what that reveals should be really interesting. This is better than a soap opera. I too am concerned about unsecured loans to PLP cronies.

Stapedius 9 years, 10 months ago on Xenophobia in the Bahamas: Haitian Ambassador addresses Fred Mitchell

I like how illegal immigrants always want to take the moral high road. Haitian ambassadors never feel the need to address the deplorable human conditions in Haiti. The corruption and poor governance is in large part the issue there. Nobody wants to address the poor race relations within Haiti but they are highly critical of the Bahamas and talk of education campaigns. Why not educate Haitians on building their economy, family planning and what it means to stop revolting at every dislike. It's a revolving door of poverty and political instability in Haiti and everyone is being to politically correct about it. We as a people do not wish Haiti or its citizens any harm. We are simply saying as Bahamians that we should not be made to feel guilty for the failure of the Haitian government to protect the interest of its people. In fact, we should be proud of our own leadership that includes the opposition for once standing together to protect our interests. Now if you call stopping illegal immigration xenophobia then so be it.
