Yesterday’s outcome of the European Parliament elections showed the mainstream centrist parties across the continent took a battering from populist and environmental groups which has resulted in considerable political fragmentation. The elections were a massive exercise in democracy with more than 400 million people eligible to vote and the shock outcome is inevitably dominating the news the other side of the Atlantic. Lowering the prostate cancer risk

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has registered that 200 Bahamian men were diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2018, and that number is likely underestimated, as several Bahamian men seek prostate cancer screening and treatment abroad and they are often not captured in local statistics. WHO data showed that 249 men died of cancer in the Bahamas in 2018 and 80 of those men died of prostate cancer.

'Gun epidemic closely tied to drugs trade'

OF THE 762 murders in the country since 2012, 629 of these have been as a result of gun violence, National Security Minister Marvin Dames revealed yesterday. So far this year, he said, there have been 31 murders, but 87 percent of these or 27 involved firearms. Between 2012 and 2018, approximately 602 or 82.4 percent of the 731 homicides involved guns, he also said.
