As a avid beach and snorkeling enthusiast that lived on PI for 2 years I can tell you all that as a lot the Jet Ski operators are reckless, unprofessional, and mangy. Not very good reflection of true good natured Bahamian people or at least not the face you want to show tourists. They do serve a nice purpose though as myself sometimes and the tourists often loved to have the option and ease to pay the $30-$40 and hop on a jet ski for 20 minutes. However, every single time I was offered pot, even though one did not need to be offered as the reek of pot all around the boys and there glazed eyes were a dead giveaway that they could be asked for it. Don't get rid of them, but the harbor police or some officer that needs to get off his fat arse and start writing tickets and random checks for licenses. Get rid of operators that run their business like pirates. Now rapes and unwanted sexual contact is a entirely different story, so IF those are happening, then investigate rigorously and prosecute individually, not as a lot. The most disturbing and dangerous part for me personally was when the boys drive the jet ski inside the snorkeling areas coming around the point and into cabbage beach. At least 5 times I was snorkeling inside the buoys and zoom zoom over head while I was down came a wild eyed boy on a blazing fast jet ski. Soon you will have a dead tourist because her or his head collided with a jet ski while inside the non motorized allowed buoys.
