I speak of alerting the Chief Customs Officer in Freeport,in the early 80's, about the actual and future danger of non-Bahamians pilfering the wrecks in vulnerable areas of the Bahamas and specifically the Ginger Bread Grounds that had claimed some significant vessels. This particular American actually showed me the silver he had recovered from a P&O vessel! He had authority,so he said, from the then Minister of Transport, one Mr.Bethell,to take the merchandise out of the country via Freeport. Quite where my information went I'll never know ... the Customs Officers were playing games of their own.
It's your country...your treasure...then SECURE IT AND BENEFIT THEREFROM.
