I was a witness to this terrible tradgedy. My sister was the woman that was pulled from the water. She was standing in water up to her ankles. Also my neice and great neice were with her and were swept in as well. I personally pulled them out. They were screaming for help and no one came. There were no warnings or flags anywhere where we were. There were no verbal warnings or otherwise. Matter of fact the taxi drivers just kept bringing more and more tourists to the beach during and after this tragic event with NO warnings. The woman who lost her purse in the water was also my friend. She was no where near the water as she was on a chair against the cliff. Water rushed in and swept ALL of our belongings out. Her purse and a few articles of clothing and some flip flops were all that were not recovered. Her purse had all her cash and identification in it. In a panic over not being abloe to get back through customs she watched her purse float on top of the water. This gentleman came to her and said "If I go get your purse will you pay me?" Of course she said yes. The man dove in and retrived her purse... He was tired and signaled for help. We told the lifeguard ( at least he was wearing a shirt that said lifeguard and blowing a whistle" He needs help! We were told " thats too bad I am off duty!" as he watched the man go under. 7 and a half minutes later a bunch of locals and tourists pulled this man out. It took longer for the ambulance to get there because of the taxi's and tourist blocking the way. A man lost his life due to the inhumanity of people. For the few short minutes that I spoke to him and thanked him for helping me with my family he was humble and a good person. If more people on the beach would have helped him or even talked him out of the idea and explained that it WAS possible if you lost your ID you could still get through customs. Maybe if there were real warnings up it never would have happened! There are no waves like THAT where I live! I am a tourist! Maybe if that taxi driver cared more about people and less about making a buck HE would have warned them. simply said " hey be careful the water is rough"
My heart goes out to this man and his family. My God raise him up to heaven.
