I have been a frequent visitor to Nassau for the past 12 years. My last 2 visits were disappointing as I had money stolen from my carry on bag that was gate tagged in Miami and was picked up at Nassau airport last Saturday-9/13. My mistake was leaving my wallet in the back pack, but I was tired after traveling for 12 hours and didn't think about it. My mistake was trusting that my belongings would be safe. On my previous trip my credit card information was stolen and an attempt was made to purchase $3000. worth of merchandise from a mail order store in US. The company froze my card so I could not use it while I was in the Bahamas. These incidents prevented me from spending and purchasing goods and services from the local people. This hurt the Bahamas because I no longer feel as safe as I once did and will have trouble recommending the Bahamas as a vacation site. This hurt my economic situation as I am a senior with a fixed income. Even with all the building going on, I see a downturn in the economy when people are moved to steal to meet their needs. I only hope that the person who stole my money used it for family needs and not wasting it on drugs, alcohol and gaming. When the Bahamian economy is dependent on tourism, it is not a good idea to steal from your tourists. It hurts everyone!
