A BUSINESS owner shot and critically injured a man who attempted to rob him late Wednesday night, according to police.
It happened around 8:30pm at a restaurant on Wulff and Marathon Roads,
Police say the owner of the restaurant was about to get into his vehicle after closing his business, when he was approached by a man with a handgun.
The suspect robbed him of cash and took the keys to his 2002 Nissan X Trail.
As the thief attempted to drive off with the stolen vehicle the owner took out his licensed firearm and shot him several times.
He was hit in the chest and the hand and three of his fingers were shot off. He ran, but collapsed a short time later in front of a mechanic’s shop at the rear of Star Insurance on Marathon Road.
He was taken to hospital by ambulance where he is listed in critical condition
Police recovered the stolen cash from the suspect.
Investigations continue.
The incident follows a late night shoot-out last week that left a would-be thief dead.
The incident occurred around 6:30pm at Palm Tree Avenue and 6th Street, Coconut Grove.
According to police, two masked men, both armed with handguns and wearing dark clothing, entered the Supermarket and demanded cash.
They reportedly robbed the store of an undetermined amount of money. In their attempted to escape they fired at the owner, who returned fire, killing one of the suspects.
He was identified as 18-year-old Shameka Lorenzo Adderley of Sandilands, Village Road.
The second suspect escaped on foot.
A few days before that killing a security guard at a Carmichael Road convenience store shot and killed a man who attempted to rob the store.
When asked if he felt the incidents represented an increased risk in personal security, Officer in charge of the Central Detective Unit, Paul Rolle said: “We encourage people to take steps to protect their premises, and if that’s what it takes, so be it. I do believe that this Bahamas is a peaceful place and we’d like to keep it that way.”

So when am I going to be able to purchase and carry a concealed handgun so I can defend my business and staff? I don't feel totally comfortable walking around my business and getting in and out of my car to and from work carrying around a 3 foot long licensed shotgun...do I just leave it laying about my office and my desk and hope I can dash back and grab it while a handgun weilding thief is approaching? We need to have more 'tools' at our disposal to defend ourselves. The criminals are outgunning us so to speak and obviously they do not care which laws they break in doing so...

A Referendum on gun ownership is more important than one on gambling, but people don't see it that way. what is the point to win money and when you leave someone rob you off it?

People need to take control as the crooks don't care who they hurt or steal from. We need to arm ourselves legal.

Job well done. This single incident will discourage many other criminals by putting them on notice: their next gag may be their last.
Kudos to the business owner for stopping, without taking a life, what could have become a far worse crime, and for stopping the thug so that police could arrest him.
Likely the perp has a long history of priors and is suspected in many other crimes.
The American leftist press is lying and shamelessly exploiting tragedies, trying to shove 'gun control' down citizens' throats.
But the media's stranglehold on information is long gone thanks to the Net. Many Americans are licensed to carry, and in those states which permit such, crime is falling.
Gun sales have again gone thru the roof in America, on account of anticipated curtailments to gun rights, yet just as criminologists have long stated, as lawful gun sales increase, crime is falling yet again.

Gun control isn't neccesarily a bad thing, yes every law abiding citizen should be allowed to own a hand gun and say a rifle or two, but why is it necessary for a normal citizen to own a machine gun? This is affecting society here in the U.S as well as other countries like my native Bahamas, because these weapons usually end up in the hands of idiots. Besides the NRA have motives also, they are lobbying arm for the gun manufacturers, and only concern about gun sales.
