Pinder wins head-to-head against Bain

IT was a weekend for the Bahamian quarter-milers as they competed in a series of events.

At a meet in Poland, Michael Mathieu turned in the best performance with his winning time of 45.50 seconds.

Two male competitors, Demetrius Pinder and Andretti Bain went head-to-head at the Star Athletics Sprint Meet in Clermont, Florida, while Chris ‘Fireman’ Brown and Shanuae Miller took their talent to the second annual BVI Twilight Invitational in the British Virgin Islands.

In Clermont, Pinder took the tape in a winning time of 45.89 seconds. Bain got fourth in 46.95, but was placed fifth overall. American Calvin Smith, winning heat two in 46.18, was second overall. Coming in third was Trinidad & Tobago’s Jarrin Solomon in 46.20 and Amerocan Kerron Clemont was fourth in 46.57.

IAAF World Indoor silver medalist Brown picked up a third in 45.77 in the men’s 400m race in Tortola that was won by American Torrinton Lawrence in 45.75. Tabarie Henry of the USVI was second in 45.75.

Miller also got third as she competed for the first time since skipping the IAAF inaugural World Relays here last month with an injury. The IAAF World Indoor bronze medalist posted a third place finish in 52.60.
