SENATOR Michael Pintard officially announced his candidacy for chairman of the FNM last night.

Mr Pintard said his decision to run came after some members of the party asked him “to make himself available”.

He said the party needs someone at the forefront who can not only work with members to better the organisation, but also work with members of the government to better the country.

“It was a call from the membership of the party, it was not a call initially from the leaders but from the rank and file for the party,” Mr Pintard said.

“Of course now I have the full support of the leaders but it began as a call from the people. They asked me to continue what previous chairmen have done, to share the party’s vision and organise and energise the base.”

The FNM will hold its national convention on Friday, when the party will decide on several executive positions, including leader, deputy leader and chairman.

Phenton Neymour, former Minister of State for the Environment, has also officially announced his intention to run for FNM chairman.
