A MAN appeared in Magistrate’s’ Court yesterday charged in connection with a recent beating death that police have classified as a murder.

Bryant Rolle, 38, is accused of intentionally causing the death of Yves Smith on November 25 and was charged with murder under Section 291 (1)(B) of the Penal Code.

A charge under this section does not attract the discretionary death penalty if a conviction is reached at the end of trial.

However his lawyer, Krysta Mason-Smith, asked for a review of the facts of the case to determine whether her client should face the charge before the court.

According to police reports, Smith was outside a home on Sandilands Village Road when a man that he knew struck him with an object. He was then rushed to hospital in critical condition where he later died.

Rolle was not allowed to enter a plea to the charge due to the nature of the offence.

The case is to be forwarded to the Supreme Court through the presentation of a voluntary bill of indictment on January 14, 2016.

Rolle was remanded to the Department of Correctional Services, however, he has the right to apply for bail at the Supreme Court.
