A MAN was killed by a hit-and-run driver who struck him as he was walking in the area of Golden Isles and Carmichael Road early yesterday morning.

Police are appealing to the driver and members of the public to come forward with any information they might have on the incident.

According to the officer-in-charge of the Road Traffic Division, Superintendent Craig Stubbs, a dark coloured vehicle struck the man shortly after 6am. The car then dragged him from the Golden Isles junction to the area of Scotia Bank on Carmichael Road.

He said the victim was found with significant injuries to his body and one of his shoes was left behind at the spot where he was initially hit.

The victim, Mr Stubbs said, was wearing dark coloured trousers, black shoes and a dark coloured shirt.

He said: “We are classifying it as a hit and run. At this time we are looking for a dark coloured vehicle that was travelling east along Carmichael Road.

“We find it hard to believe that someone could hit a person, drag them, and not know. So we want the person who knows they did this to come forward.

“We are appealing to the public because we believe that because the area has a high frequency of motorists and early morning pedestrians – someone must have seen something. Someone must know.

“We want people to come forward with whatever they know. It does not matter how small one might think the information is. Anything would help us to solve this tragic death.”

Mr Stubbs said while relatives of the victim were present at the scene, police were not releasing his identity until sometime today pending confirmation from the Princess Margaret Hospital lab.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Road Traffic Division or 919.
