Two dead, two critically injured in Freeport car accident

TWO people have been killed – a 31-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman – in a car accident in Freeport, Grand Bahama, in the early hours of today. Two other passengers are in the Rand Memorial Hospital fighting for their lives.

Police report that, shortly after 1am, they went to Ponce De Leon Drive and Wellington Street, where they found an extensively damaged, overturned blue 2006 Chevy Malibu that had run into the wall of a residence with four passengers trapped inside.

Officers of the Fire Branch and Traffic Department were called along with EMS personnel and the 'Jaws of Life’ had to be used to extricate the people from the vehicle.

Two passengers, the driver and a passenger, succumbed to their injuries at the scene. The two remaining passengers, a male and a female, were taken to the Rand Memorial Hospital where they are said to be in critical condition.

Investigations are continuing and police are sending a strong warning to the motoring public to always use seat belts and to drive within the speed limit.They are also urging the motoring public to refrain from drinking and driving.
