FIVE people – one seriously injured - were taken to hospital following a traffic accident on the Warren J Levarity Highway in Grand Bahama on Saturday afternoon.

According to police, the incident happened around 12.45pm when two vehicles travelling in opposite directions collided.

Inspector Terecita Pinder reported that a male driver and a male passenger were in a white 2004 Dodge Neon which was travelling in the northern east bound lane.

She said the driver of a white 2005 Chevy Malibu, with two passengers, was travelling in the southern west bound lane when the car collided head-on with the Dodge and overturned, landing on its roof.

One of the occupants was trapped in the Malibu and had to be extricated with the jaws of life.

Ms Pinder said that all of the occupants were rushed to the Rand Memorial Hospital, where they were given medical assistance.

According to the latest police update on Sunday, one person was listed in serious condition, two people were in stable condition, while two others have been discharged.
