POLICE are probing the circumstances surrounding the death of a man who allegedly drove his vehicle into the waters off Clifton Pier on Friday.

While police have not identified the victim, The Tribune understands he is Raymond Cantor.

Shortly after 6pm, police received a report that a vehicle was driven overboard into waters at Clifton Pier in the front of a power plant.

When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered a silver coloured 2013 Nissan Sentra submerged in the water.

Minutes later, a team of police divers removed the lifeless body of the victim, who is described as a dark-skinned adult male, from the vehicle and transported him to the Royal Bahamas Defence Force Coral Harbour base where he was pronounced dead.

Police have not yet classified the incident.

However, as condolences poured in on social media site Facebook, users claiming to be relatives of the victim suggested that it was suicide.

One user said: “RIP cuz, we all knew what you was going through, never thought you would have took that way out. It’s sad that you left your family behind but God knew your struggle. All the suffering is over (sic).”

Another user said: “I never would have believed years ago that the very same man who encouraged me not to take my own life would years later do the same thing. Rest in peace Raymond. You will be missed.”

Mr Cantor leaves behind a wife and two children.

Police urged anyone with information to come forward as investigations continue.
