A 48-year-old father of three was found hanging from the ceiling of a wooden shed attached to his Hillside Estates home early yesterday morning.

According to police, around 8am Wednesday, the victim’s wife found him hanging from the rafters with an extension cord wrapped around his neck.

He was pronounced dead at the scene. Police have not identified the victim but The Tribune understands he is Randy Sweeting.

Officer-in-Charge of the Central Detective Unit, Chief Superintendent Clayton Fernander said police do not suspect foul play. He said the family of Mr Sweeting said he had been depressed for some time and was receiving counselling.

“He was found hanging from a drop cord thrown over a rafter,” Chief Supt Fernander said.

“The only information we have is the family said they woke up and they prayed together and he got the drop cord and left to go into the shed. His wife went about her normal routine getting ready for work and when she realised she had not seen him for awhile she went to check on him and discovered him hanged.”

The victim’s sister, Caroline Sweeting, said her brother had been “depressed for some time”, but was seeking help from the family pastor.

“He was a loving and caring person and he just got into a situation that was too much for him. It was unbearable and he did not know what to do, where to turn or who to turn to. He just gave up on life,” Ms Sweeting said.

“He couldn’t believe all of the things that were happening, he had to remortgage his house and he kept saying that he was flat broke and all his money was gone, but we thought he would get better. The pastor spoke to him, everyone spoke to him but he just couldn’t believe how his life had turned out. I told him if he loved his children he would work hard and get out of the struggle but all he wanted to do was sleep.”

An autopsy will be performed to determine the exact cause of death.

Investigations continue.

Truly a very sad and devastating event for the family of this deceased man. There are unfortunately many other such sad events that can be rightly laid at the door step of the corrupt Christie-led PLP government. Like so many others in our country today, all this man wanted was a job so that he could provide for his family. The failed policies, graft and corruption of Christie and his elitist group of "favoured" political friends and business cronies have left so many in our society without a job and with the resulting guilt and shame that swallows up decent individuals who find they can no longer provide for their family members who depend on them. Christie has no shame for all those Bahamians he put out of work at Baha Mar and the many others he has ruined the lives of. What an evil monster Christie has become!

It is very sad when anybody, regardless of who they are, reach that greatest depth of depression and feel that suicide is the only solution. Sympathies to the family members. Mortgage situations...wonder if he was holding out for da PLP to provide mortgage relief...

It's sad to say less than 24 hours after making a comment on a story about Bahamians having a difficult time, (http://www.tribune242.com/news/2016/j..." rel="nofollow">http://www.tribune242.com/news/2016/j...) we have another suicide in The Bahamas. Depression, hopelessness etc is becoming a huge problem. It's been scientifically proven that cannabis is great for PTSD etc, this is why a bill was passed in the U.S senate so war veterans can now choose alternative methods to help them live a better life. Gone are the days when you can 'pump' citizens full of religion and expect them to live a poor and spiritual life; we are now living in an information age, while we may not have the best educational system in the world, citizens can read the truth, or there's YouTube to just sit back and watch the truth. The time has come my fellow Bahamians to rise up from comfort and take back our country from these corrupt Dinosaurs and their cronies. In America people taking pills are jumping out of 12 story windows, celebrities overdosing, the same pills are LEGALLY all over our Bahamaland. I know cannabis is controversial in The Bahamas, however, watch Youtube a bit more about the lies from the past and the current truths. I hate to say it but it really seem like Cannabis will truly be the healing of our nation, financially, socially, educationally, physically, environmentally and even spiritually! The 'good book' says: “And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall MAKE you free.” BEING FREE IS FREEDOM MY FELLOW BAHAMIANS... My condolences to the family of Mr. Randy Sweeting

.................................. PLP and FNM driving Bahamians to suicide ................................

To be fair, we must not forget that more people committed suicide under the FNM than this PLP group of blatant pirates.

Both parties are equally culpable for creating the present conditions that drive so many of our people to suicide!

How anybody can trust the PLP and FNM again to lead our country is beyond comprehension.

I cannot fathom how any right thinking Bahamian could be contemplating voting for these pirates.
