Resorts World Bimini (RWB) yesterday confirmed its temporary closure ahead of Hurricane Irma's potential arrival.

Bimini's 'anchor property', in a release yesterday, said Irma, currently a Category Five storm, has a projected path that includes the Bahamas and is forecasted to impact the northern islands with intense winds on Friday.

"Our top priority at all times is the safety and well-being of both our customers and our team members," said Resorts World Bimini president Missy Lawrence.

"Given the high probability of damage to property, and risk to lives associated with a Category Five storm, we are working diligently to prepare the resort and get our guests and employees quickly out of harm's way."

Around 15 guests and hundreds of employees are in the process of departing Bimini, and the resort will be secured. An announcement concerning damage, and an estimate for when normal resort operations will resume, will be made after a damage assessment is performed.
