CHAVEZ Young hit his first home run of the season and Lucius Fox went on a seven-game hit streak to highlight the week for Bahamian players in minor league baseball.

Young homered in his Dunedin Blue Jays’ 5-2 win over the Bradenton Marauders. He finished 2-4 and scored one run with three RBI. The Blue Jays took a 1-0 lead into the bottom of the fifth inning when Young’s shot cleared the fence in left centre field to score Cal Stevenson and Kevin Vicuna. They eventually took a 5-0 lead at the end of the inning.

The Blue Jays improved to 8-4 the following night with a 6-1 win over the Charlotte Stone Crabs. Young finished 1-5.

Young was assigned to the Blue Jays of the Florida State League in Class A-Advanced to begin his 2019 campaign. He was listed as the Toronto Blue Jays’ No.23 prospect in the preseason and the franchise’s farm system was listed as No.5 overall.

Baseball America also recently listed him as the best arm in the Blue Jays farm system and the Tampa Bay Times called him one of five “Prospects To Watch” in this year’s Florida State League.

Fox’s seven-game hit streak came to an end Tuesday night after a hitless outing in a 7-3 win for his Montgomery Biscuits over the Mobile BayBears. He is currently in his second season with the Biscuits of the Double A-Southern League.

His streak began April 6 when he went 2-3 with one RBI and one run scored in a 6-5 loss to the Chattanooga Lookouts.

Over the last seven games, Fox has gone 8-21 at the plate, scored six runs, collected three RBI and two stolen bases.

Fox was listed as the No.11 overall prospect in the Tampa Bay Rays organisation in the preseason and the Rays were listed as the No.2 farm system in all of the MLB.

Last season, Fox achieved two All-Star appearances and reached the Double-A level for the first time in his career.
