UB Mingoes even record with thrashing of Lady Truckers

THE University of The Bahamas Mingoes women’s softball team needed only five innings to defeat The Johnson Lady Truckers 13-6 in NPSA action in The Bankers Field at the Baillou Hills Sporting Complex Tuesday night.

The Mingoes started off slow, letting the Truckers score in the first inning but the Mingoes answered back with two in the bottom of the inning to go up 2-1.

The Truckers put three runs on the scoreboard in the top of the second to go up 4-2 and the Mingoes were only able to answer back with one run to end the inning with the Truckers up 4-3.

The Mingoes held the Truckers to one run to start the third inning but it was the bottom of the inning that the Mingoes’ bats came alive. The Mingoes scored six runs in the bottom of the inning and never looked back en route to the 13-6 win in five innings. “Our defence faltered in an inning or two,” head coach Shane Albury said. “However, team defence picked up to aid in the win and we capitalised off of their errors and pitching woes.”

Charity Rolle picked up the win for the Mingoes while Yvanna McDonald was tagged with the loss.

“Our pitcher Charity Rolle was pretty consistent last night and that helped us a lot,” Albury added.

Kenisha Kelly went 1-2 with 2 runs, one RBI and a double while Cyntese Cooper went 1-3 with one run and one RBI for the Mingoes. Eltisha Major went 1-3 as well.

Natasha Paul went 2-3 with two runs for the Lady Truckers in the loss.

• UB Mingoes are scheduled to play Warriors 8:30pm June 18 in The Bankers Field at the Baillou Hills Sporting Complex.
