Health coach Ethan Quant, of Elite Wellness Solutions, has succeeded in his weight loss journey and now wants to share his methods with the Bahamas in an effort to foster a culture of wellness and conquer the obesity epidemic.

I have a little secret I want to share with you. I really hate running. Well, not just running, I hate jumping, skipping, jogging, pretty much any type of cardio. The thing is when I started my health, wellness and fitness journey I knew that I had to become more physically active, and to me that meant exercising. However, I learned that there is actually a big difference between physical activity and exercise.

Physical activity is any movement carried out by the skeletal muscles that requires energy. So pretty much any movement that you do is considered physical activity. Exercise on the other hand is planned, structured and intentional repetitive movement intended to improve or maintain physical fitness. So exercise is actually a subset of physical activity.

Here are five ways you can increase your daily physical activity without exercise or even any hug disruption to your day.

  1. Take the stairs instead of the elevator. I know we have all heard this before, but how many of us have actually done it? It funny that just the decision to take the stairs instead of the elevator is an easy way to increase your physical activity. So the next time you have to take an elevator take the stairs instead.

  2. Park further away from the door. I remember when I used to drive around for the closest parking spot I could find. Now I just park. The thing is that the further away you park, the more spots are available. Another added benefit is people are less likely to hit your car because everyone is trying to park closer to the door.

  3. Take the kids outside to play. I think this is one of my favourites, because all kids like to play. So taking them outside to run around the yard or the park is good for them and good for you, and it’s an awesome way to spend quality time with the little munchkins you love.

  4. Take the dogs for a walk. Similar to kids, dogs like to be outside when they can. So it’s actually good for you and for them to start incorporating regular walks.

  5. Do some yard work. Even if you don’t have a green thumb you can go outside and rake the leaves, cut the grass or trim the hedges. All of these things you can do will will not only give you the best yard through the corner, but will help you on your journey to becoming a healthier, fitter version of yourself.

Those are just a few ways that that you can increase your physical activity, but trust me there are many more. So this week let’s list all of the different ways that we can move our bodies more then let’s get moving!
