THE second annual Bjorn Munroe Grand Bahama Junior Tennis Championships has been sanctioned by the Universal Tennis Rating (UTR) organisation, and is set to take place in Freeport in June.

Tournament director Bjorn Munroe Jr is pleased to have the UTR sanctioning which will give the tournament participants the opportunity to have their world-ranking results tabulated at the end of the championship.

The event is slated for June 7-10, is on the UTS calendar of events and is expected to attract coaches and athletes.

Universal Tennis Rating (UTR) is a global tennis player rating system intended to produce an objective, consistent and accurate index of players’ skill in the game of tennis.

UTR rates all players on a single 16-point scale, without regard to age, gender, nationality or locale of a given match.

All professional players in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) and the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) have UTRs, as do most college players and many junior tournament players worldwide, as well as many adult league and tournament players.

The UTR database includes results from more than 8 million matches and 200+ countries. More than 800,000 players have UTRs.

Mr Munroe said the UTR will enhance the tournament experience. The tennis championships will feature Boys and Girls 12 and under; Boys and Girls 14 and under; Boys and Girls 16 and under; Open/18s and Doubles.

Mr Munroe said that as a result of the UTR rating, players are prohibited from registering during the tournament.

All interested tennis athletes are asked to register online at BMCHAMPIONSHIPS.COM. For more details persons can call 614-203-3062.
