BAHAMIAN national team standout Kadeem Coleby was honoured among the top players in the Japanese B-League at its annual awards show.

Coleby took home the trophy for the league lead in blocked shots (2.4 per game) last night at the Roppongi Hills Arena in Tokyo, Japan.

In his second season with the Akita Northern Happinets, Coleby appeared in 52 games with 12.8 points and 8.4 rebounds and his aforementioned league lead in blocks in 30 minutes per game.

He shot 54 per cent from the field and also added 1.4 assists and 1.1 steals per game.

Coleby completed his second season with the Happinets after they were promoted from the B2 League last year.

In his first campaign with the club, he posted averages of 11.9 points, 6.9 rebounds per game on 58 per cent shooting from the field and 1.6 blocks per game.

The Happinets finished the season 17-43, fifth in the East division.

The season also presented the opportunity for Kadeem to be reunited on the court with his younger brother Dwight Coleby on the Happinets roster.

Dwight joined the Happinets following his stint in Belgium with Liege Basket in Belgium’s Pro Basketball League (PBL). In 13 games with the club, he averaged 14.5 points and 10.2 rebounds per game.

Dwight returned to Leige Basket and the PBL following his stint in Japan. The PBL is the highest level of basketball in Belgium. Liege Basket is a one-time winner of the Belgium Cup and a two-time champion of the Belgium Supercup.

In the previous season during the Bahrain Premier League, Kadeem was a member of Al Muharraq and was an integral part of the team’s run to the Cup final and league runners-up after a loss in the championship series to Al Manama.

After the season, he signed with Al Manama for the 37th GCC Clubs Basketball Championship Tournament.

The former Wichita State Shocker was a key member in Al Manama’s title run – their fourth consecutive and 20th overall. He finished with 23 points in the season finale.

In 2015, the 6’9”, 250-pound forward played with Al Fateh Al Hasa of the Saudi Arabian Premier League.
