Star student Syesha wins $2,000 scholarship

A STAR student has earned a scholarship after being honoured by the Bahamas Primary School Student of the Year Foundation.

Syesha Cox was a finalist, and has been handed a $2,000 scholarship by CIBC FirstCaribbean. The bank will also present her with a backpack and school supplies for the upcoming year.

Syesha was one of 112 sixth-grade graduates nominated by the foundation, who shared $141,000 in scholarships and more than $40,000 in prizes.

Among other accomplishments, Syesha served as First Step Academy’s head girl and published a cookbook late last year.

Marie Rodland-Allen, CIBC FirstCaribbean’s managing director, applauded Syesha, saying: “As a nominee and finalist, you are recognised as one of the best and brightest students in The Bahamas. We at CIBC FirstCaribbean know that sixth-grade ended in an unexpected way for you and your peers. Nonetheless, you committed to your studies, persevered, and completed primary school successfully.”
