Five more airlines to join travel bubbles

(AP) Five additional global airlines and the Airport Council International (ACI) World have announced they will join the CommonTrust Network to create “Safe&Clean” travel bubbles on flights in and out of New York, Boston, London and Hong Kong as of December 2020.

By joining the network, JetBlue, Lufthansa, Swiss International Airlines, United Airlines, British Aiways and Virgin Atlantic join Cathay Pacific and Singapore Airlines who have already selected the World Economic Forum’s CommonPass (encrypted ePassport App) powered by Prenetics (HKG) RT-Lamp technology.

Commons Project Foundation CEO Paul Meyer said: “The members of the CommonTrust Network are coming together to implement an inclusive global network designed to empower individuals with digital access to their health information so they can protect and improve their health, and demonstrate their health status to safely return to travel, work, school, and life while protecting their data privacy.”

The pass was officially trialled in October on Cathay Pacific Airways and United Airlines flights between Hong Kong, Singapore, London, and New York. It enables passengers to demonstrate their Covid-19 status while protecting their data privacy.

United regulatory and policy vice-president Steve Morrissey said: “We were proud to be the first US carrier to trial CommonPass on 21 October from London Heathrow to Newark.

“Testing is a key component of our multi-layered approach to safely reopening travel and ensuring our customers’ wellbeing, and we look forward to using technology platforms like CommonPass to provide travellers and governments confidence in verified test results.”
