A MAN was fined $2,500 after he was found driving around with two pounds of marijuana concealed in two gift boxes.

Andre Campbell was arrested after officers found the drugs in his car on November 22.

He pleaded guilty to conspiracy to possess dangerous drugs and possession of marijuana with the intent to supply, when he appeared before Magistrate Samuel McKinney.

The court was told that around 4.18pm on the day in question, police on mobile patrol, acting on information, proceeded to an area near the Airport Authority. There they identified an Infinity vehicle that Campbell was driving. After they beckoned for him to stop, they informed him that he and his car would be searched for dangerous drugs and firearms. While officers did not find anything illegal on Campbell, they found two Christmas wrapped packages, which both contained a quantity of marijuana in the backseat of Campbell’s car. He was subsequently arrested and taken to a nearby station, where he declined to comment in an interview with police.

After pleading guilty, Campbell told the magistrate he made a “bad mistake” and asked the court to be lenient in its sentencing.

He was fined $2,000 for possessing the marijuana and another $500 for conspiring to acquire it. If he doesn’t pay the fines, he will be sentenced to six months at the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services.
