A POLICE officer found a quantity of marijuana in a car occupied by three men who led them on a high-speed chase, a court was told.

Duwayne Tomlinson, Stanley François and Alex Johnson were arrested in September after police found in the car three vacuum sealed packages that each contained Indian hemp.

At their first court appearance, Tomlinson admitted the offence and was fined $5,000 or nine months in prison.

However, François and Johnson denied the allegations and their matter was adjourned for trial.

When police constable 4041 Enrico Anderson gave evidence, he said that around 2.35pm that day, officers on mobile patrol near Zion Boulevard noticed a heavily tinted Nissan Cube travelling in the eastern direction at a high rate of speed. PC Anderson said he then beckoned for the car to stop by using his patrol car’s lights, sirens and fog horns and informed its three occupants they would be searched for dangerous drugs and firearms.

The court was told that when the officer searched the car, they found three large silver and black vacuum sealed packages with marijuana in a Super Value plastic bag that was resting on the backseat in plain sight.

PC Anderson said he then arrested the men and took them to the East Street South police station. He said when he questioned François and Johnson there, they appeared to be nervous.

The matter continues on January 31, 2022.
