BAHAMIAN student athletes continue to have a major impact on their respective programmes in NCAA Division II basketball.

Malachi McCoy produced a season-high scoring effort for the Benedict Tigers and Lathaniel Bastian recorded his sixth double double of the season for the Angelo State Rams.

Both teams split their respective weekend series.

McCoy’s career night was a 23-point, eight rebound performance in an 86-77 win over Albany State. He shot 9-11 from the field as the Benedict returned to the win column.

The Tigers rebounded after a loss to Morehouse on January 15 to snap their 10-game losing streak. McCoy finished with eight points and five rebounds in the loss. The junior forward is averaging 10.9 points and a team-leading 8.9 rebounds per game.

Angelo State concluded the weekend with a Lone Star Conference loss to Dallas Baptist, 82-69.

Bastian was one of the few bright spots with 17 points and 10 rebounds. With the loss, the Rams move to 11-4 overall on the season and 1-2 in conference play.

Bastian began the weekend with eight points and eight rebounds in a 75-73 win over Midwestern State.

In his sophomore campaign, the 6’8” forward is averaging 12.1 points and 8.1 rebounds per game.
