I've seen this coming for years now. I remember my first visit to Nassau in the early 1980’s; I never heard one word of profanity until I returned to Miami.
When the Bahamas introduced 99 Jamz radio, to me that signaled a shift in cultural attitude from a much more grounded people. I remember in later years going to the Junkanoo Festivals and having to take cover from youth by now affected by a move aggressive and defiant nature. Fast forward to today, it seems that every time I pick up the newspaper I see a murder. If the Government doesn't get a handle on this violence, I'm afraid the Bahamas will suffer the same fate that crippled the economy of Jamaica. Those who fail to learn the lessons from the past failures of others stand to suffer the same fate. This truly highlights the need for Caribbean countries to develop other industries, like farming, alternative energy, and manufacturing. It is great to promote Tourism, and share your culture, and amenities with the world, but when it becomes unsafe for those who would visit your shores, particularly in the absence of other vital industries, this could have devastating consequences to the growth of a Nation.
