A 32-year-old attorney was charged on Friday with stealing by reason of employment and receiving in connection with the alleged theft of a laptop and mobile phone worth a combined $838.
Matthew Walker, of Montgomery Avenue, appeared before acting Chief Magistrate Ancella Evans accused of stealing a grey Dell Vostro laptop valued at $559 and a black Samsung A26 5G phone valued at $279 from Gateway Ascendancy Limited on July 30 at Village Road, New Providence.
Prosecutors alleged that Walker stole the items while employed.
Walker elected to be tried in the Supreme Court on both charges.
The prosecution did not object to bail, and the matter was adjourned to February 4.
Vernon Pyfrom prosecuted the case. Walker elected to represent himself.
