A 42-year-old father accused of sexually assaulting his eight-year-old daughter earlier this month was remanded to prison yesterday.
Prosecutors allege the defendant, whose name is being withheld to protect the identity of the child, had unlawful sexual intercourse with his daughter sometime between July 6 and 17 in New Providence.
The defendant was not required to enter a plea to a charge of incest when he appeared before acting Chief Magistrate Ancella Evans.
He was informed that the matter would proceed to the Supreme Court through a voluntary bill of indictment and that he has the right to apply to the higher court for bail.
The voluntary bill of indictment is scheduled to be served on October 29.
Inspector Deon Barr prosecuted the case. Donna Major and Alphonso Lewis represented the accused.
