A POLICE officer testified yesterday that a 74-year-old woman accused her grandson of dousing her and another relative with gasoline and setting them on fire in 2023.
Detective Constable 4368 Freddie Moultrie gave evidence in the attempted murder trial of Ricardo Richardson before Justice Guillimina Archer-Minns.
Richardson is accused of setting fire to his grandmother, Magnola Moxey, and his uncle, Emile Humes, following an argument on November 27, 2023.
DC Moultrie said he received a report around 10.30pm that night about an incident that resulted in an elderly woman being admitted to hospital.
The officer said he went to Princess Margaret Hospital as part of his investigation and spoke with Ms Moxey.
According to DC Moultrie, Ms Moxey told him that her grandson had thrown gasoline on a relative and set both of them on fire.
He said he returned to the hospital’s burn unit on November 30, 2023, and obtained a second statement from Ms Moxey.
The trial was abruptly adjourned during DC Moultrie’s testimony because of an unresolved legal issue.
The prosecution apologised to the jury for the delay and said the matter could not continue until the issue was resolved.
DC Moultrie is expected to continue his testimony today.
