A MAN believed to be in his mid-20s was found hanging from a balcony at his home yesterday in what police suspect was a suicide.
A female relative contacted police shortly before 8am after making the discovery at their home in the Indigo gated community.
Emergency Medical Services personnel responded to the scene, removed the victim, and later pronounced him dead.
“This male was found in a gated community off West Bay Street. This male is believed to be in his mid 20s and appeared to be suffering from depression but I cannot confirm at this time,” said Inspector Gerard Culmer.
This latest incident follows an apparent suicide attempt by a 41-year-old mother at a residence on Indiana Lane on Sunday, the latest in a series of such incidents.
The woman was found unresponsive by her daughter after reportedly ingesting a large quantity of over the counter medication
Responding officers found her drifting in and out of consciousness in an upstairs bedroom on the southern side of the home.
She was transported to hospital for further medical treatment and evaluation. Her condition was not known up to press time yesterday.
Police are appealing to anyone struggling with depression or emotional distress to seek professional help.
“We also appeal to members of the public who think their family might as a result be feeling withdrawn the past few weeks, selling their items just being depressed, not really eating much or losing an appetite. We want to ask if you just reach out to them. Just reach out to family members so you can avoid matters like this today.”
