A 45-year-old Bahamian man was remanded to prison yesterday after being charged with rape in the Magistrate’s Court.
Vernard Gibson, of Archers Lane, Bozine Town, appeared before acting Chief Magistrate Ancella Evans accused of having sexual intercourse with a woman without her consent.
The matter proceeded by way of a voluntary bill of indictment.
According to the charge, Gibson allegedly had sexual intercourse with the 26-year-old woman without her consent sometime between June 3 and June 4.
Mr Gibson was represented by attorney Kelsie Munroe.
Bail was denied and Gibson was remanded to the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services. He was informed that he could apply to the Supreme Court for bail.
Mr Gibson is scheduled to return to court on September 13.
