SEABREEZE MP Leslia Brice used humour in the House of Assembly yesterday to knock down rumours about her health, blaming the weekend scare on a piece of lobster and insisting she is well.
Ms Brice said speculation about her condition spread after she suffered an unexpected reaction while eating lobster on Saturday, prompting calls and messages from family, friends and constituents.
“This past Saturday, I had an unexpected encounter, not with a political opponent, not with a policy challenge, but with a piece of lobster that had other plans for my weekend,” she said.
“Rumours began circulating, Madam Speaker, that were far from the truth, and before I knew it, I was receiving messages from family, friends, and loved ones, of which I am deeply grateful, but what was a truly wonderful feeling for me was the residents of my beloved Sea Breeze calling and letting me know that they were on their way to be by my side full steam ahead. Madam Speaker, that is love, that is the connection, that is the bond that I share with the people of Sea Breeze.”
Ms Brice thanked those who contacted her and offered prayers, saying the response showed the strength of her relationship with Sea Breeze residents.
She also joked that the health scare was not enough to stop her after surviving the recent election campaign.
“Now, I want to be clear, I was not about to let that little lobster take me out, Madam Speaker. I survived a gruelling and intense campaign. I walked those streets, I knocked on those doors, I stood in the heat for hours, and I am still standing,” she said.
“And if a whole election could not slow me down, a piece of seafood certainly was not going to stop me, Madam Speaker.”
