A MAN who broke into a Robinson Road funeral home and stole $900 last month was sentenced to one year in prison yesterday, along with 18 months for breaching his probation over an attack in which a school principal's finger was broken.

Jameko Powell, 40, pleaded guilty before Senior Magistrate Algernon Allen Jr to shopbreaking and stealing. He admitted breaking into Curtis Funeral Home, at Robinson Road and Fifth Street, on September 27 and stealing $900 belonging to Randolph Curtis.

Powell had been on probation for assault with a dangerous instrument, threats of harm and causing grievous harm. Around 3.40pm on January 23, he and others attacked a 15-year-old boy with a tyre iron and broke the finger of Principal Ricardo Patterson when he stepped in. On the same date, Powell threatened to stab a 13-year-old girl who attends Anatol Rodgers.

Inspector 3004 Sherquell Forbes prosecuted.
