Letters: When will Pride Bahamas start agitating for same-sex marriage?

EDITOR, The Tribune.

OVER the past holiday weekend Pride Bahamas held a slew of events in Nassau under the auspicious of the United Caribbean Trans Network. The event was dubbed Transcendence 2026. A talent showcase was held at the Marriott Ballroom, which is shocking. Based on my limited understanding, the Marriott franchise was founded by John Willard Marriot in the 1920s. Marriot was a devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, a fundamentalist cult based in Salt Lake City, Utah. This cult is vehemently opposed to the LGBT community. On Saturday past, Pride Bahamas also held a Human Rights March event in the capital, which convened at the University of the Bahamas. Choosing UB was a strategic move, as Pride Bahamas is seeking to implement a cultural shift in the thinking of our university students who will be our future political, civic, business and religious leaders. Pride Bahamas knows exactly what it is doing.

The LGBT organisation also held a Human Rights Health and Wellness Conference. And then there was the Pride Bahamas Show held on October 9. Pride Bahamas spokesperson Alexus Royale D’Marco posted two videos of a couple members of the clergy endorsing the work of the LGBT organisation. Their strong Caribbean accent suggests that they are not Bahamians. The Bahamian Constitution allows for the freedom of peaceful assembly, according to Article 24. Many Bahamians of Generation Z and Generation Alpha are not aware that the Progressive Liberal Party government in 1991 legalised same-sex relations between consenting adults. I am not aware of any widespread protests by either the Bahamas Christian Council or the Free National Movement regarding this revolutionary legislation that will have catastrophic eternal consequences for those lawmakers who supported the Bill. Be that as it may, no one would have imagined that a group of LGBT advocates would dare to openly march on the streets of New Providence some 36 years ago. But times have changed. Pride Bahamas is increasing in boldness. Their members are no longer hiding in the closet. Any constructive criticism is shouted down as being homophobic. LGBT members are sensing the cultural and moral shift in The Bahamas, with a backslidden and spiritually lukewarm church top-heavy with “apostles” and “prophets” that seems to be mainly interested in holding conferences and attaining superstardom. It seems as if everyone wants to be on Facebook prophesying rather than sharing the simple gospel of Jesus Christ.

Everyone wants to build a massive religious empire similar to what African American Bishop T D Jakes did with the Potter’s House in Dallas, Texas. Everyone wants to be on TBN. Everyone wants to grace the front covers of The Tribune and The Nassau Guardian. Our motives are impure. Pride Bahamas smells blood in the water, with a morally decadent nation reeling from gun violence, narco trafficking, political corruption; the high rate of marriage infidelity; teen sex, prostitution, child and elderly abuse and systemic gambling addiction, especially among tens of thousands of women who are spinning away their meager financial resources. Not helping matters is the high rate of alcoholism with so many of our young men hanging out at the bar rooms each night rather than being home with their families and being the priests of the home. The Bahamas is in the midst of a moral crisis. Even a charlatan like Edgar Cayce could see that Pride Bahamas will, in the not-too-distant future, begin agitating for legalisation to legalise same-sex marriage.

They will appeal to the United Nations and a Democrat Party controlled White House and Congress to coerce this country in conforming to their social mores. The Bahamas is simply not in the economic or military position to say no to this LGBT blackmail, unfortunately. Based on the spiritual state of this nation, I can foresee same-sex marriage becoming a reality within the next two decades, barring a spiritual reformation. Unfortunately, I have seen nothing from a lukewarm Bahamian Christian community that would remotely hint that such a revival is on the horizon. Same-sex marriage would be God’s judgment on this country for turning our backs on Him.
