Canadians name Bahamas as ‘top family destination’

The Bahamas has been named as the ‘Top Family Destination’ in Air Canada Vacations' 2026 Travellers' Top Picks Awards, one of Canada's leading consumer-voted recognition programmes.

The Ministry of Tourism, in a statement, said Nassau earned the distinction following a nationwide poll in Canada that drew more than 1.3m votes across ten travel categories. The Bahamian capital was recognised for its diverse family-friendly experiences, ranging from beaches and outdoor adventures to cultural immersion and premier resort offerings.

Cabbage Beach, Cable Beach, Baha Bay Water Park, Aquaventure and Arawak Cay's Fish Fry were cited as top attractions. Nassau’s ability to consistently deliver such top family travel experiences is why it currently sits atop Canada’s premier family destination list.

“This recognition is particularly meaningful because it comes directly from travellers who have experienced Nassau and chosen to share their confidence in our destination,” said Jackson Weech, the tourism director-general.

“Families today are seeking destinations where every generation can find something meaningful to experience. Nassau offers that through the warmth of our people, our rich culture, our natural beauty and the diversity of experiences that make our capital city distinctly Bahamian.”

The award comes amid continued growth in Canada, which is one of The Bahamas' strongest international source markets. From January through August 2026, The Bahamas welcomed 1,449,294 stopover visitors, representing a 4.3 percent increase compared to the same period in 2025.

Canadian arrivals outpaced overall growth, reaching 104,476 stopover visitors through the first eight months of 2026 -  an increase of 13.8 percent year-over-year and 5.8 percent above 2019 levels. The surge has been aided by a significant expansion of airlift from the Canadian market.

The Ministry of Tourism said the recognition underscores the success of The Bahamas' strategic investments in air connectivity, destination promotion and visitor experience improvements.

It added that this reinforces Nassau's position as a premier Caribbean destination for families seeking relaxation, adventure, entertainment and authentic Bahamian culture.

The Ministry of Tourism said that, as demand from Canadian travellers continues to grow, The Bahamas remains focused on strengthening its market presence while delivering experiences that inspire repeat visitation and long-term destination loyalty.
