FORMER Turks and Caicos Islands premier Michael Misick’s legal team is expected back in the Supreme Court today as it seeks the recusal of a judge overseeing confiscation proceedings following his bribery conviction.
Justice Colin Williams, who was recently appointed to preside over confiscation proceedings involving Misick, former Cabinet minister McAllister Hanchell and attorney Thomas Misick, is expected to rule today on an application calling for him to step aside.
The three men were convicted and sentenced to prison earlier this year. Michael Misick and Hanchell were convicted of bribery, while Thomas Misick, the former premier’s brother, was convicted of money laundering.
The former premier is appealing his conviction and sentence.
The proceedings are part of a legal battle spanning 16 years, which continues to attract interest in The Bahamas and across the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), of which the Turks and Caicos Islands is an Associate Member.
