A MAN was granted a conditional discharge after failing to pay the licensing fees for his shotgun in New Providence last week.
Theophanis Smith, 41, was found with a black Maverick pump-action shotgun and one round of birdshot on September 8.
Smith pleaded guilty to possession of an unlicensed shotgun and possession of ammunition before Senior Magistrate Algernon Allen Jr.
Magistrate Allen granted Smith a conditional discharge and ordered him to pay the outstanding licensing fees for the shotgun.
If he fails to do so, Smith faces a $2,500 fine or six months in prison for the firearm offence. He also faces an additional $2,500 fine or 30 days in prison for the ammunition offence if he defaults.
Smith returns to court on October 30 for a report on his payment.
Inspector Timothy Bain prosecuted the case.
