A POLICE constable was charged yesterday with trying to kill two teenage boys on Cowpen Road, including a 15-year-old who was shot in the back while driving.
Prosecutors allege Desmond Pinder, 47, opened fire on the teenagers around 6.30pm on September 2 as they travelled in a silver Nissan Note.
The 15-year-old driver reportedly heard a gunshot before realising he had been struck in the back.
He pulled over and ran towards the Golden Isles Road area, while his friend fled in another direction.
The injured teenager managed to reach his home, where his older brother took him to hospital. His injuries were not considered life-threatening.
Pinder, who had been interdicted at Police Headquarters earlier yesterday, appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Ancella Evans wearing a civilian suit.
He was charged with two counts of attempted murder and was not required to enter a plea.
The matter will proceed to the Supreme Court by way of a voluntary bill of indictment.
Pinder was advised of his right to apply for bail in the higher court and will return for service of the VBI on January 21, 2027.
Bjorn Ferguson represented Pinder, while Corporal Moultrie prosecuted the case.
