Dr Kenneth Romer, The Bahamas’ deputy tourism director-general and director of aviation, was this week presented with the 2025-2026 Infrastructure Leadership MVP Award at a regional conference.

New Energy Events, organisers of the tenth annual Caribbean Infrastructure Forum (CARIF) that was held in Miami over the previous two days, said the MVP Leadership Award is the highest individual honour in the industry. It is presented to someone who has demonstrated exceptional, strategic and visionary leadership in advancing infrastructure in the Caribbean.

Chosen by an independent jury of regional industry leaders, Event Organisers said: “The recipient is recognised for their sustained impact, influence across sectors, and dedication to driving meaningful progress in policy, investment or project delivery.”

The recognition places Dr Romer alongside Mia Mottley, the Barbados prime minister, who received the Infrastructure Leadership MVP Award in 2025 and Dr Nigel Clarke, former minister of finance and the public service for Jamaica, won the award in 2024.

“While this award is deemed an individual honour, it is a recognition of the Bahamas’ position as a respected regional leader and, more so, a reflection of the incredible talent that resides within our small but indomitable nation that continues to punch above its weight class as the world marks the manner of our bearing”, said Dr Romer 

Dr Romer was a CARIF panellist during the ‘Gateway development: Airports and airlift’ session. He contributed to the discussion around aviation infrastructure, air connectivity and the role of gateways in supporting Caribbean development.
