TWO brothers were remanded to prison on Friday after prosecutors alleged they allowed a three-year-old boy to hold a rifle, filmed him with the weapon and later had the gun at their home.
The 33-year-old father of the child and his 40-year-old brother are accused of endangering the boy while he was in their custody on September 3.
Prosecutors allege the child’s mother alerted police after the father sent her a video on WhatsApp showing the boy holding the weapon.
Police allegedly recovered a New Frontier Armoury 9mm rifle during a search of the brothers’ Allen Close residence on September 11.
The pair pleaded not guilty to cruelty to children and possession of an unlicensed firearm before Senior Magistrate Algernon Allen Jr.
Sergeant 3004 Forbes objected to bail, citing the seriousness of the offences and saying both defendants had antecedents.
The brothers were denied bail and remanded to prison until their trial begins on February 5, 2027.
