A MAN was fined $5,000 after failing to declare that he was travelling with more than $10,000 earlier this week.
Colimond Cedieu, 45, a Haitian national, failed to declare to a Bahamas Customs officer at Lynden Pindling International Airport that he was travelling with $31,990 on September 22.
Cedieu pleaded guilty to failing to declare before Assistant Chief Magistrate Kara Turnquest-Deveaux.
Keevon Maynard, Cedieu’s attorney, said his client was remorseful and asked the court to spare him a custodial sentence.
Cedieu was fined $5,000 or, in default, faces six months in prison.
Of the money seized, $15,000 was forfeited to the Crown, while the balance will be returned to Cedieu.
