A MOTHER and her two daughters were arrested after a fight between C.C. Sweeting students spilled into an attack on a police officer outside the school, police said.

The confrontation, captured on video, drew a large crowd outside the school gates as students tried to separate those involved and several male students pulled the officer away from the area. An adult man later stepped in.

Police press liaison Chief Superintendent Sherri King said the trouble began with a fight between two female students.

An officer assigned to another school in the area intervened to break it up, but police allege the mother of one of the students then attacked the officer and another of her daughters joined in.

The adult woman and two female juveniles were subsequently arrested and charged.

The incident comes weeks after Assistant Commissioner of Police Dr Chaswell Hanna, who has responsibility for School Based Policing and Training, said school violence had fallen 48 percent since the school resource officer programme was reinstated.

Dr Hanna also said parents had been taken before the courts during the previous academic year over incidents at schools.

He warned that police would pursue parents who create disturbances involving teachers and administrators on school campuses.
